Charter Academy opened in September 2009, replacing St Luke’s CE School. It is non-selective, welcoming boys and girls of all abilities. It is a school for 11 - 16 year olds and will open a sixth form when our new buildings are completed, enabling Charter pupils to continue their studies to age 18. The academy has a Church of England ethos, welcoming students of all faiths and none.
We believe in the potential of all our students and we are committed to giving them every possible opportunity to succeed. Every student should leave the academy with real choices: to continue into further and higher education or pursue the career of their choice. Our academy is shaped by a culture of inclusion and mutual respect, which encourages a close working relationship between students and staff. We provide an inspirational and secure environment which recognises and celebrates success while challenging students to realise their full potential.
From 2010, the academy will admit 120 year 7 pupils each September (in four forms of entry), reflecting the council’s forecast of a reduced requirement for school places.
